During the Franco dictatorship in Spain (1939-1975), the women’s branch of the Falange fascist political movement in Spain controlled women’s lives and oversaw their political indoctrination. It also organised women’s sports and mass meetings and parades, as well as appropriating the folkloric traditions. This is the starting point of El demonio del cuerpo, a choreographed documentary that returns to the Francoist archive to investigate memory, censorship and the violence exerted on women and queer bodies during this period.
Inka Romaní is a Valencian choreographer and dancer. She trained in her home city and Toulouse, and also in London, where she collaborated with the Sadler’s Wells Theatre.
