THE CÚPULA

The Cúpula (the Dome) in the lobby of the Mercat de les Flors was created by the Mallorcan painter Miquel Barceló in 1986. The dome is 12 meters in diameter, four meters high and weighs 2,400 kilograms. It is made up of 16 identical pieces, and for its construction polyester resins, glass fabric and fiberglass have been used, in addition to corrugated reinforcements also built with fiberglass and located along the entire dome in order to to give it elasticity. This large relief painting depicts the sea.
