The MURAL DE LES OLLES

By Frederic Amat

2001

On the occasion of the inauguration of the new headquarters of the Theater Institute, in front of the Mercat de les Flors, this work consisting of 500 enamelled ceramic pots was inaugurated in 2001 as the ‘Mural de les olles’ meaning ‘The Mural of the pots’. It is a set of irregular ceramic jugs 30 meters long and 17 meters high. Each pot was made by hand: at the precise moment when they were easily moldable, when they were at a high temperature in the oven, the artist intervened, deforming them. The work had the collaboration of the ceramist Joan Artigas and the sculptor Pere Casanovas.
