Australia’s most international company, the Sydney Dance Company, is directed by the Catalan choreographer Rafael Bonachela. His career has led him to combine high culture and popular culture, which has worked in various art forms, such as contemporary dance, art installations, pop concerts, musicals, cinema, advertisements and fashion. Bonachela was born in La Garriga and moved to London to join the legendary Rambert dance company, which he belonged to from 1992 to 2004. In 2008 Bonachela premiered his first full-length production, 360°, for the Sydney Dance Company. Less than six months later he was appointed artistic director of the company, news that heralded a new era in Australian contemporary dance.
