Yinka Esi Graves, artist selected for Wave 2 of the DRIFT Project

  • Mercat de les Flors and Graner have selected Yinka Esi Graves for Wave 2 of the European project DRIFT – Dance & Research in the Future Time (2026–2029).

A British dancer and choreographer based in Seville, Yinka Esi Graves develops a practice that brings flamenco into dialogue with the dances and cultures of the African diaspora. Her work explores the relationships between body, memory, identity and community. For DRIFT, Yinka proposes mas, a research project exploring Afro-Caribbean carnivals and processions as spaces for gathering, movement and collective creation, connecting rhythms and practices from the Caribbean, Africa and Europe.

Her selection recognises the strength and distinctiveness of her proposal, as well as its potential to build new networks, foster collaborations and develop her practice within a European context. An opportunity to continue creating, researching and connecting across borders.
