During the 1950s and 1970s, my father and his two brothers were members of the Edelweiss Speleology Group. In 1956, Edelweiss began exploring Ojo Guareña, one of Europe’s largest caves, in northern Burgos. Guided by speleologists, LIGHT YEARS AWAY is a journey through the darkness of the theater, a journey in which everything that appears along the way surprises, whether organic or inanimate, chronological or anachronistic, visible or invisible. It is a film off the screen, a faceless documentary, a show illuminated by flashlights.
Edurne Rubio (ES/BE) is a visual artist; she works with a wide variety of media and formats. Her works are presented in different contexts: theaters, film festivals, and exhibitions, as well as in public spaces. Edurne Rubio creates situations that generate tension between what we see and what we hear, traveling between the present, memory, and imagination. Interested in oral transmission, she constructs collective narratives from individual stories, proposing a subjective reading of History that depends on emotions and is in constant transformation. Among her most recent works are: TINIEBLAS (2026), a production by the Centro Dramático Nacional, and LOS HUESOS NO FLOTAN (2026), a short film produced by Europalia Spain. Her work has been presented at venues such as: Kaaitheater (Brussels), Théâtre de la Ville (Paris), Brakkegrond (Amsterdam), Conde Duque, São Paulo Biennial, Museum of Contemporary Art of the Basque Country, Documenta Madrid, Dok Leipzig, Punto de Vista Festival.
