THE MERCAT AT THE TEATRE LLIURE

DUB, a show by the Senegalese choreographer and dancer Amala Dianor, will be staged at the Teatre Lliure under the auspices of the Mercat de les Flors, Barcelona’s dance house. The piece is an immersion in the musical movement that emerged from 1960s reggae, a vibrant show that culminates on the dance floor with a demonstration of global hip-hop. DUB is vogueing, pantsula, krump, waacking… DUB is pure energy. A tribute to urban dance that encourages the audience to join the party.

A self-taught hip-hop dancer, Amala Dianor studied at the Centre National de Danse Contemporaine in Angers, from where he graduated in 2002. He worked as a performer for ten years, drawing inspiration from a wide variety of techniques, and founded his own company in 2012. His elegant, organic style stands at a crossroads of styles. Since 2014, he has worked with electro-soul composer Awir Leon, who writes the music for his shows. He also works regularly with a number of other musicians, visual artists, actors, writers and calligraphers. He was awarded the Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres medal in 2019.
