In this solo, Madeleine Fournier explores the pas de bourrée as an archetypal and timeless figure in dance. Starting from this step, she invites us to traverse a variety of dances and let ourselves be carried away by their “grooves.” She also draws upon practices performed by women throughout history, which she allows to emerge from her unconscious: everyday gestures, sexuality, motherhood, work, the force of life… In Labourer, the sound and visual elements engage in a dialogue with the dance, like a double-sided game that shifts us from one sensation to another, from one meaning to another.
Madeleine Fournier trained in dance at the CNR in Paris and the CNDC in Angers. She has performed with numerous choreographers, including Odile Duboc, Emmanuelle Huynh, Loïc Touzé, Rémy Héritier, David Marques, and Yasmine Hugonnet. At the same time, she co-created a series of pieces with Jonas Chéreau. In 2017, she founded her company ODETTA and then created the solo piece Labourer. Her work develops in close connection with experimental music, song, dance, performance, and the natural world, which leads her to collaborate with artists from various disciplines. She enjoys observing how the context—the garden, the theater, the concert hall, the ballroom, the gallery, the cinema—and the codes associated with them interact and cause the performative form to resonate in new ways.
