Romances inciertos. Un autre Orlando (Uncertain romances. Another Orlando) is both a show and a concert where we discover androgynous figures from Spanish popular culture to explore gender ambiguity. The piece transports us to popular stories, such as La doncella guerrera (The Warrior Maiden), a medieval woman who disguises herself as a soldier to follow her love, San Miguel de García Lorca, a voluptuous archangel, and Tarara, an Andalusian mystic and seductive gypsy, and bearer of the secret of her androgyny. The plot takes place in a beautiful baroque setting with 4 live musicians playing the bandoneon, the viol and traditional percussion, amongst others.

François Chaignaud creates performances with dances and songs that draw from different inspirations. The artist, also a historian, wrote L’Affaire Berger-Levrault: le feminisme à l’épreuve (1898-1905) (The Berger-Levrault Affair: Feminism put to the test), published by Presses Universitaires de Rennes (PUR). Since 2005 he has also been working (with great international projection) with Cecilia Bengolea, with whom he made the unforgettable piece (M)imosa, performed in 2017 at Mercat de les Flors. Nino Laisné, trained in Fine Arts, photography and video, also studied traditional South American music and combines film, music and contemporary art. From 2010 his images became sounds which evoke traditional songs. His projects have taken him to many countries and he has worked on many collaborations, such as El amor brujo by Israel Galván, which we will also see at Mercat de les Flors this season.
