A ballet of ghosts covered in white sheets produces a fascinating optical illusion where the bodies seem to float above the ground. Spectres of classical ballet mingle with famous choreographers such as Maurice Béjart and Merce Cunningham. More moving than scary, these ghosts, with their virtuoso technique, guide both the young and the old in a joyful dance brimming with surprises. La BaZooKa makes ghosts dance to uncover a magical world, made up of illusions, where the history of dance is presented in a playful way.
Formed in 2002 in Le Havre, the La BaZooKa company creates shows and artistic installations. Popular culture and the figures that emerge from it have served as the basis of their work since they first started. Étienne Cuppens and Sarah Crépin are also inspired by their childhood memories, real or imagined, to invent characters that resonate with the collective unconscious and take on new dimensions through dance. Mummies, hybrid manga heroines, ghosts, the “Venus of Willendorf” made of pillows, and sailors with lobster claws, all comprise an emotionally moving, graphic bestiary, a kind of phantasmagoria that allows for the invention of stories.
