CIE. DYPTIK

This piece is an onstage representation of the unchecked and meaningless social-climbing rat race. Choreographer Mehdi Meghari uses breakdancing, traditional Arabic dances and popping as a starting point. Richard Gratas creates a light landscape that is, at times, transformed into scenography, giving intensity to the scenes of the power game, which are performed precisely and elegantly by the dancers. Inspired by traditional Arab dances and rhythms, the choreographer and the musician Patrick de Oliveira transport the performers, who stand out for their excellence, to an energetic state close to trance.

The French company Dyptik was formed in 2012 by choreographers Souhail Marchiche and Mehdi Meghari. They have a creative workspace in Saint-Etienne where they welcome resident artists, and they also organise the Trax urban dance festival, which gives special support to new choreographers. With an open, plural, hybrid vision of urban dance, they produce and distribute their own shows and work for the development of dance in their region. Their show D-construction featured at the 2018 Tàrrega Fair and the 2019 Olot Sismògraf.
