Brought up in the flamenco tradition but also trained in jazz and classical music, the pianist Dorantes gets together with Renaud Garcia-Fons, one of the most remarkable double bass players in the world, and the music and ethnological project Cordes del Món, directed by Ernesto Briceño. In this format Flamenco a cordes (Flamenco on the strings) comes to the Mercat de les Flors. A work arranged for strings – bowed, plucked and struck – where variety is the rule. Two virtuosos acclaimed for their technical skill, Dorantes and Renaud Garcia-Fons find a meeting point on their paths, encompassing differences in the approaches to art music and music where the only channel is oral. The string sextet Cordes del Món is accompanied by Javi Ruibal on percussion and the dancer Leonor Leal. The show also features José Antonio Martín ‘Salao’ as guest artist.

Fifteen years ago an extraordinary pianist from a family of great flamenco tradition burst onto the scene: Dorantes. Today he is the most prestigious international flamenco pianist and the winner of a string of awards. A tireless worker and researcher, he has composed recognized works for orchestra and made appearances at the biggest music festivals in the Orient and the Occident. Renaud Garcia-Fons is one of the most extraordinary bass players in the world, known as “the Paganini of the double bass” for his stunning virtuosity and deeply versed in the jazz and classical disciplines. He has developed a special partnership with Mediterranean and flamenco music that also provides an extraordinary picture of his identity as a musician.
