NOT STANDING / ALEXANDER VANTOURNHOUT

Foreshadow

May, 3 and 4
PAST SHOW

Recommended age: + 14

After VanThorhout, which featured Alexander Vantournhout solo on stage, not standing returns with a brand new work for eight acrobat dancers entitled, Foreshadow.  Soundtracked by experimental rock music, performers explore the physical limits of a giant vertical obstacle. What if a high wall cuts the stage in two and the remaining space is too small for eight dancers? Will the wall be an obstacle, or does it create new opportunities?

If past productions SCREWS, Through the Grapevine, and Contre-jour were a dialogue with the floor and horizontality, Foreshadow is an exploration of verticality. In Foreshadow, Alexander Vantournhout brings the back wall of the theatre to the fore, challenging not only notions of gravity, movement and spatiality but of pure potential as well.
