A piece for 15 dancers, Crowd is a meditation on love and violence within a cathartic rave, in which the young people immerse themselves in the electronic music. “The music’s intensity and the emotion that binds these people in this place create a situation that is conducive to a kind of emotional roller-coaster, or more specifically, to a large number of interrelated disorders,” Vienne says. In recent years, the artist has been exploring people’s dark side and our need for violence. Crowd is a disturbing piece that fixes our gaze on our darker side.

Gisèle Vienne is a Franco-Austrian choreographer, stage director and visual artist. She regularly works with the writer Dennis Cooper and the musicians Peter Rehberg and Stephen O’Malley. During the last 20 years, she has made several tours to different countries in Europe and her works have been performed on many occasions in Asia and America. She has exhibited her photographs in museums such as the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, the Centre Pompidou and the National Museum of Fine Arts in Buenos Aires.
