EL BALL

This short piece was the first show by the Franco-Catalan duo formed by Camille Decourtye and Blaï Mateu Trias. It dates from 2004. 

El ball (The Dance) is situated on the frontier separating the different languages of the body. It assumes simplicity and absurdity and makes us laugh, while in this way revealing human frailty to us.

Baró d’Evel’s projects always emerge out of an impulse in the direction of improbability, on the line between privacy and achievement. In the opposition, in the interstices, in the passages, Baró d’Evel seeks those places of transformation where one becomes another, where the absurd relieves us of meaning. Because these paradoxes, these frictions that threaten us, also open doors. They allow the imperfections of the body in action to re-emerge during the creative process and show us the inner turmoil, the fragile excesses. It is also a question of personifying beings who improvise and adapt themselves, instinctively simple beings, and evoke roles and states rather than just characters.

Presentations of the creative processes developed at the Centre

Group of specialists

Students who are enrolled in the specialty at the CAC Rogelio Rivel present research and productions of their own, supported by contributions made from an external viewpoint to both the acts and the work done collectively.

These are shows created through individual research into specific techniques, which are added to collective research where these techniques are developed, transformed and enriched.

The circus techniques we work with are corde lisse, trapeze, straps, juggling, acrobatics and acro dance.

The Centre de les Arts del Circ Rogelio Rivel began its activities with a pilot course in 1999 and in 2000 installed the first circus tent on a land leased by the Nou Barris district council to the Rogelio Rivel Circus Association. This tent became a key venue in Barcelona, dedicated in particular to the circus and mainly to training and production, a space that serves as a meeting point for practice and exchange. Launched and developed thanks to the hard work and efforts of a team of teachers, artists and managers, the Centre is now an established and recognised project in Europe, as a member of the FEDEC (European Federation of Professional Circus Schools) and as a preparatory and professional training school for the circus arts.
