The project investigates the concepts of overflowing and containment with regard to stage aesthetics, corporeality and choreographic language. It delves into the need to seek altered states of awareness and the production of alternative identities as a means of evading mundane constraints and emptiness. Desbordes draws from a camp aesthetics and the New Romantics movement of the 1980s. The work’s starting point are the blend of elements, the kitsch aesthetics, its optimism and exuberance, the androgynous features and theatricalization, producing denaturalization and artificiality through excess and escapism.
