AT CASTELL DE MONTJUÏC
This project is the fruit of a commission that Aina Alegre received from the Marseille Festival to create a piece for 100 amateur dancers in 2023. It draws on popular festivals, processions and parades, her Catalan origins and the collective energy of Mediterranean festivals to imagine a monumental dance. This will be performed in Barcelona at Montjuïc Castle.
Aina Alegre has been co-director of the National Choreographic Centre in Grenoble since 2023. She sees choreography as a way of opening up imaginary worlds around the body. Through dance she explores different relationships involving the collective body. She conceives her shows as an “orchestration” of movement, sound, light and space. In her creations she also investigates the ideas of memory and archive, which run through all her work. Aina Alegre has been an associate artist at the Mercat, which has staged several of her pieces in recent seasons.
