THE SHOWS

The Compañía Nacional de Danza presents three works, two by the consolidated choreographers Jirí Kylián and Johan Inger, and one by Alfredo Bravo and Arantxa Sagardoy from Tarragona, which will be premiered at the Mercat.

Sleepless, by the Czech choreographer Jirí Kylián, was created for the young dancers from NDT II as a reflection on the measurement of the time artists need to create and their state of consciousness and unconsciousness. Kylián, who provides a model for a large number of choreographers, has created nearly one hundred works that are performed worldwide by the best dance companies.

Arantxa Sagardoy and Alfredo Bravo, directors of the company Plan B, have created Babylon, a piece that takes as its starting point an underworld anchored in the metrics of the sound of movement, driven by latent and powerful humanity.

Produced by the Nederlands Dans Theater I in 2001, Walking Mad emerged from Inger’s fascination for an old television recording of Bolero, played by the Los Angeles Philharmonic. A wall divides the stage into two separate areas, which represent the reality that the various characters relate to. The Swedish choreographer Johan Inger has been one of the lead performers at the Royal Swedish Ballet and later, fascinated by Kylián, at the Nederland Dans Theater. In 2003 he was appointed artistic director of the Cullberg Ballet and has been associate choreographer with the NDT since 2009.

This will be the first performance in Barcelona by the Compañía Nacional de Danza since José Carlos Martínez was appointed director in September 2011.
