What will happen when Oriza Hirata, that great renewing force in contemporary Japanese theatre, meets Hiroshi Ishiguro, a leader in the field of robot research? You can learn the answer in this version of The Three Sisters, set in a tiny Japanese provincial village in an indeterminate but certainly gloomy future. This is a time of crisis when, due to relocation of production to other Asian countries, the nearby robot factor is no longer the economic driver it once was. The three sisters are not the same, either: their father, a robot engineer, has replaced his dead daughter with a geminoid, an almost-human robot. In this “android version”, Oriza Hirata masterfully blends comedy and drama to present the first work in history in which a real android interacts with the characters, delving into the world of feelings
