In Lo Real, Israel Galván explores a difficult subject, the extermination of the Gypsies under the Nazi regime. And this time he does so accompanied by two great dancers from the same generation, Belén Mata and Isabel Bayón, as well as a substantial cast of musicians and other artists. In this way Galván has created a “major” show, where the storyline consists of questions posed on stage about the Gypsies and their extermination. The show has already been an overwhelming success at one of the key venues in Paris, the Théâtre de la Ville, where Israel is one of the favourite artists.
Israel Galván’s capacity for innovation and renovation in the world of classical flamenco has made him an absolutely essential figure on the modern flamenco scene. Winner of the National Dance Prize of Spain in 2005, Galván is the son of Sevillian flamenco dancers and has performed since he was a child with numerous companies and artists. In 1994 he created his first show, and since then his artistic grandeur has grown undisputedly. The Mercat has staged three of his shows: Arena, La curva and El final de este estado de cosas. Redux. In 2012, Israel Galván won three major awards: for La curva, the Max Awards for the Performing Arts as best male dancer and best choreographer, New York’s Bessie Award for La Edad de Oro, and the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts awarded by the Spanish Ministry of Culture . He was also awarded the City of Barcelona Award in 2007.
Isabel Bayón has been awarded with the National Dance Award 2014 in the category of interpretation. Check the news here (spanish).
