One of South African choreographer Mamela Nyamza’s most celebrated works, in which ten dancers, a singer, and a musician begin the movement with Camille Saint-Saëns’ *The Swan*. From that moment, a captivating choreography unfolds, exploring themes of identity, belonging, and gender. Using simple household materials, the performers evoke ancestral tasks and interweave expressions drawn from diverse cultures. It is a frenetic, vibrant language that challenges established norms to offer a fresh perspective on contemporary dance.
Choreographer, dancer, and activist Mamela Nyamza is the recipient of the Silver Lion at the Venice Biennale (2026) and a nominee for the Salavisa European Dance Award (2026) in recognition of her body of choreographic work. Nyamza is one of the most influential voices in South African contemporary dance. Her works powerfully interrogate power, gender, race, and tradition. She collaborates with major European dance organizations. Her iconic solo *Black Privilege* was presented at the Mercat de les Flors in 2020 in partnership with Africa Moment.
