Having won the 2023 Max Award for the best dance show with La Reina del Metal, which we saw at the Mercat and where metal was the material around which the show revolved, the flamenco dancer now uses glass and ice in Aibar/rabiA, a palindromic title based on her surname. In this solo, the creator immerses herself in the origins of her dance and dissects the calligraphy of her own movement in order to discover the source from where everything flows. She does so through her dance, in which she perfectly blends tradition and modernity.
Vanesa Aibar’s flamenco can be defined as free, modern dance endowed with excellent technique. She trained in Granada and Sevilla and has firmly positioned herself within the scene of contemporary flamenco since creating her first show in 2019. Her previous show, La Reina del Metal, won numerous awards. She also creates shows for unconventional spaces and is interested in audiovisual creation. Apart from her own productions, she has worked with artists such as Carmen Linares, Andrés Marín, Blanca Li, Eva Yerbabuena, Enric Monfort, Mayte Martín and the Royal Concertgebouw.
