MAR AGUILÓ

Swan

Popup - Descomptes

This is an autobiographical piece that blends bold personal insights with reflections on the tradition of classical dance and how it survives in today’s world. Through this performative act, Mar Aguiló presents a choreographed self-exploration of the need to create distance between her body and the stage. The piece portrays a body worn down by practice and time stepping away from the theatrical space to reconsider its role and significance. It also questions the traditional demands of classical dance, which often prioritise technical perfection over the dancer’s human experience. In this context, the weary body becomes more than just a physical state; it symbolises resistance and transformation.

Mar Aguiló trained with Maurice Béjart in Lausanne, Switzerland, and went on to spend over fourteen years with Spain’s Compañía Nacional de Danza (CND). During this time, she worked with names such as William Forsythe, Jiří Kylián, Nacho Duato, Mats Ek and Ohad Naharin. In 2021, she held a creative residency at Teatros del Canal to develop her first large-scale stage work, Stella. In 2022, she directed and choreographed the Max Awards ceremony at the Teatre Principal de Maó, as well as designer Juan Duyos’ runway show for Madrid’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. In 2023, the year she concluded her long career as a CND performer, she premièred Swan, a solo performed by Clémence Gross (of the Paris Opera Ballet) and co-produced by Teatros del Canal and the Teatre Principal de Palma.
