During the first years of life, the body moves instinctively, free of prejudice, despite being about to be burdened with (im)positions. In the construction of the emotional bond between the child and the adult, the interactions between the two are fundamental. That’s why we aim to experiment as a family and work with nursery schools on long-term projects. Observing groups of children, how they play, to see what we can offer in terms of body language and movement.
The Body and Movement Project 0-3 is structured around a concept of dance linked to the free, natural and spontaneous movement of small children.
Starting from the premise that movement is an essential factor for development in the first stage of life, we consider that the entire evolution of the physical and motor abilities of the small child becomes a dance sequence, a phrase of movement that ‘starts in the prone position at the lower level of the space and ends in standing. This process also incorporates many of the basic elements of the language of dance (such as different types of movement, levels in space, directions, paths, different trajectories, etc.).
Based on the complicity of teachers, children and their families, since 2013 the Graner- Mercat de les Flors, hosted by the IMEB (Municipal Institute of Education of Barcelona) started the Body and Movement Project 0-3 for introduce dance and movement to the Nursery School and currently works with more than 15 nursery schools in Barcelona.
