WE ARE NOVIAS - WAN

This solo intricately fuses urban and contemporary dance styles to explore the experience of dissociation and split personality, both conceptually and physically. Dissociation often brings with it the sensation of being a ghost in one’s own body. YANAG attempts to approach these mental health challenges not simply as conditioning forces, but as catalysts for creative expression. The piece won the 2023 Critics’ Prize for Best Dancer thanks to Aina Lanas’ performance.

WAN (We Are Novias) was founded in 2021 by Valentina Azzati and Aina Lanas. A central strand of their research involves gathering different urban dance techniques, analysing and deconstructing them to strip away their expected traits and stereotypes and reveal their raw physicality. Beyond dance, both artists are passionate about the cinematic and visual elements of stage performance, as well as choreographic precision and the creative potential of urban and folk dance forms in performance-making.
