With nine performers on stage, Vestíbul Errant starts from the singularity of each body to activate a common space. In a society that continues to point to difference as a threat rather than recognising it as a richness, the piece does not seek to fuse identities, but to inhabit the frictions, limits and possible alliances between them. This lobby is a place where diverse realities coexist, a shared space that does not seek resolution but belonging. This piece affirms authenticity as a political force and coexistence as a collective commitment, recognising in social dances a shared language, capable of building community from the body and from the individual towards the common.
Maria Ferrer’s work combines artistic creation and social commitment, understanding the body as a political space. She conceives dance as a tool for freedom, resistance and collective construction, exploring movement, rhythm and improvisation to address issues of memory, identity and power. Ferrer has delved into the lindy hop, a dance hall couple’s dance born in the 1930s in Harlem. This practice – popular, black and communitarian – has been key in expanding her vision of movement, shared creation and the rhythmic connection between bodies. In 2020, she created Moving!, a project for creation and reception through dance with young newcomers, which won the APdC 2024 Award for the best social project. Since 2021, she has been involved in initiatives such as Caixa d’Eines and the Graner’s educational programmes. In 2024, she received the Institut del Teatre’s Social and Community Action Award.
