The inclusive dance company L’Autre Maison is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of choreographic creation. With Starting with the Limbs, the company continues its exploration of inclusivity in collaboration with choreographer Annie Hanauer. Annie Hanauer presents a hybrid work that takes the experience of wearing a prosthetic limb as its starting point. Starting with the Limbs brings four dancers into a series of innovative choreographic variations, incorporating “wearable and portable sculptures” designed by artist Ghali Bensouda. Using digital morphogenesis and 3D printing, these structures serve a dual function—both as costumes and scenographic elements—rooting the performers within the landscape in a way that is both poetic and organic.

L’Autre Maison is a company based in Marseille, committed to addressing social exclusion in the cultural sector by advocating greater diversity. London-based American Annie Hanauer has performed, choreographed and taught around the world for 16 years. She has created work for numerous companies, and as a dancer we saw her at the Mercat in Rachid Ouramdane’s striking piece Tordre. Annie is passionate about creating inclusive and accessible artistic practices, and is interested in the power, wisdom, creativity and resilience of people who have been “altered”, derived from her own experience as a person with a disability.
