JUAN CARLOS LÉRIDA

RADICAL D’ARREL: Cher

From April 4 to 6
Popup - Descomptes

Will it be in this tremulous, degenerate, battered, crooked, displaced and infinitely distorted movement that life exists? Cher is the search for an autotune for bodies that examines the links between the body, its transformation and its ethical-aesthetic limits. In this solo, Juan Carlos Lérida uses the audio processor Auto-Tune, which corrects the frequencies that are out of tune. Thus, it aims to distort movement to place paradigms of body image and out-of-tune bodies in friction and manifests the mutant fictions that appear between tuning and detuning.

Dancer, choreographer, pedagogue, dance researcher and artistic curator, Juan Carlos Lérida’s work expands on the study of flamenco, the body and improvisation and does important work to promote empirical flamenco through his creations and workshops. He has also collaborated with numerous artists, including Calixto Bieito, Joaquín Cortés, directed and choreographed for Olga Pericet and Pol Jiménez and brought such disparate names as María Muñoz (Mal Pelo), Candela Peña, Belén Maya, La Chana, Rocío Molina, Niño de Elche and Sol Picó together on stage. Lérida is also a pedagogue and has just published a book entitled, El método flamenco empírico.
