MARIA DEL MAR SUÁREZ ‘LA CHACHI’

RADICAL D’ARREL: Lâs Alegrías

April 3 and 4
Popup - Descomptes

Part of a series of works in which La Chachi examines flamenco styles (palos), singing and tablao dancing, in her show Alegrías Aleatorias the artist agitates and alters the classic, solid structure of the Alegría style of flamenco to randomly intervene in the rhythm, the sound of the singing or the order of the elements. In this way, the piece introduces modern stimuli to the tradition in order to generate a new dialogue between the elements involved in the flamenco palos.

Having specialised in flamenco with La Lupi, studying gestural theatre, new dramaturgy and contemporary dance, Malaga-born artist Maria del Mar Suárez La Chachi discovered her true passion: bringing it all together. She began her career in 2008 and achieved recognition with her flamenco renewal pieces and hybridisation of languages that define her as a ground-breaking, hypnotic and masterful artist. “I like to apply flamenco to impossible situations, to impossible bodies.”
