Clarice Lispector, Brazilian writer, in ‘The Passion According GH’, says: “The world would not only frighten me if I became the world. If I’m the world, I will not be afraid. If we are the world, we are moved by a delicate radar that guides us.”

How do we become worlds? How can we be guided by a delicate radar and, on this specific and unique place that is the stage, create a world? A world overwhelmed by ghastly images, by luminous images, crossed by a multitude of unanswered questions and torn by contrasts and paradoxes. A world of fury.

Born in São Paulo, Lia Rodrigues joined the Maguy Marin company in Paris. When she returned to Brazil, she founded the Lia Rodrigues Companhia de Danças in Rio de Janeiro, which offers activities, dance laboratories, productions, classes and rehearsals all year round. In 1992, she created the Panorama Festival, which she directed for 14 years. Today, it is the leading event of its type in Rio de Janeiro.

Since 2004, the company creates educational and artistic activities for the Maré slum in Rio de Janeiro, in partnership with the NGO Redes de Desenvolvimento da Maré. As a result of this partnership, the Centro de Artes da Maré was founded in 2009 and the Escola Livre de Danças da Maré was created in October 2011. In the course of her 40 years of professional and artistic career, the choreographer Lia Rodrigues has not only devoted herself to artistic creation and practice, with commissions and performances in the world’s leading capitals, but also to teaching, organizing workshops and seminars around the world. She believes in the synergy between art and social processes and combines activism with utopias.
