SØREN EVINSON

Vanity Poverty Revenge

January 30 and 31, February 2
Popup - Descomptes

The connections between disparate cultural and political phenomena, such as the proliferation of homelessness in the West, drugs of all kinds and the aesthetics of luxury, such as the haute couture salon, Balenciaga. Evinson highlights the economic and mental poverty of our society in the face of an obscene degree of luxury that is both replicated and counterfeited.

Søren Evinson’s work moves at the intersection between performance, theatre and dance. Through body, text and space he generates situations that speculate on different power structures, obscuring the discourses until they can no longer be traced. He combines choreographic materials with words and song to create direct and delirious pieces in a provocative relationship with the audience. His work has been performed at dance, theatre and performing arts festivals, as well as in art galleries, abandoned buildings and public squares around the world. His first solo piece, A Nation is Born in Me, was showcased at L’Antic Teatre as part of the Grec 2019 festival.

“Evinson’s explosion onto the scene is one of the most powerful things we’ve seen in a long time. ‘A Nation is Born in Me’ is more like a train collision between performer and audience than an encounter. The piece contains a healthy dose of honesty on the part of the artist that is hard to find…. Evinson is not of this world. The fullness of the piece is linked to the nature of the theatrical act itself”. Oriol Puig Taulé. Núvol
