ÀNGEL DURAN

MONUMENT

From March 13 to 15
Popup - Descomptes

Show included in the Dansa Metropolitana festival

Drawing inspiration from subcultural movements, especially those that use the body and movement as their main tool of protest, this work revolves around collective identity, mass psychology and its construction. It explores the congregation and communion of individuals as a form of political dissent and resistance to established social and power structures. It is also an acknowledgement of the construction of these constellations, often conceived as a religious cult or a ritual. MONUMENT is the in memoriam of the collective spirit, of the celebration of what is shared, of the vindication and care of the community understood as a unit. It is also the body and its expression as cultural identity heritage, as an unyielding tool.

With a degree in dance from SEAD (Salzburg, Austria) and in Art and Design from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, Duran is also a trained actor. He has worked for a variety of European choreographers and companies, including Anton Lachky (Brussels), Milla Koistinen (Berlin), Stephan Herwigh (Munich) and DOT504 (Prague) and, since 2020, has also been developing his own project focused on exploring the human condition through the investigation of body language and the adoption of new dramaturgy. Duran traverses the poetry of movement and emotional expression. He has received several awards, most recently winning the Butaca for the best male dance artist.
