IMPROVÁVEL PRODUÇÕES

Constellation: c h ãO | grrRoUNd

February 1 and 2
Popup - Descomptes

On stage, seven performers and co-creators, one of them at the piano, connect up a handful of actions as if their bodies were seismographs. This piece, defined by its creators as fragmentary and incomplete, draws on tremolo music – also known as the sound of uncertainty, because it is a rapid alternation between two notes – and dissonance in order to emphasise the suspension of life, of the bodies. They use the tap dance of American musicals to approach the drums, features and fireworks of the Rio de Janeiro carnival, as well as the voices of  Nina Simone, Tina Turner, Afrika Bambaataa & Soulsonic Force, Beyoncé, Kathleen Hanna, Sany Pitbull, Bruno Tucunduva Ruviaro, Gal Costa, Mutantes, Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil and Chiquinha Gonzaga.

Choreographers Marcela Levi (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and Lucía Russo (Patagonia, Argentina) founded their training, research and creative platform, Improvável Produções, in Río de Janeiro in 2010. Levi and Russo take a polyphonic approach to their work, which interlinks a variety of inventive positions in a process that encourages divergent lines and internal differences as a constructive critical force and not as self-exclusive polarities. Improvável’s work strives for an experimental aesthetic based on an extraordinary confrontation with the impasses of Brazilian society in which there exists a determined effort to, rather than succumb, transform the difficulties and tensions into the subject of an artistic production.
