NÚRIA GUIU & INGRI FIKSDAL

CÈL·LULA #4: Supermedium

From January 24 to 26
Popup - Descomptes

Supermedium is a large-format work inspired by Medium, a solo piece created by the two choreographers in 2022 and which opened the 2023-24 season. In the history of dance up to the present day, there have been different approaches to the incarnation of that which is virtual or invisible. Witches and mediums have always been women associated with the fringes of society and with superpowers. In this new work for CÈL·LULA #4, Núria Guiu will be accompanied by the Norwegian choreographer Ingri Fiksdal.

In Supermedium, the dancers are the medium through which dances from different times and spaces are channelled, thus becoming a conduit that connects past, present and future time. Through actions of invocation, possession and exorcism of movements, the performance becomes a speculative fiction about the corporeal knowledges and histories that pass through us and are transmitted to other bodies. Supermedium is performed by 9 dancers, including Guiu herself.

Núria Guiu has worked as a dancer with companies such as the Cullberg dance company, Gisèle Vienne, the Carte Blanche dance company, the Batsheva Dance Company, Ingri Fiksdal, Jasmin Vardimon, La Veronal and Kobalt Works. She was recently awarded the National Culture Award 2022, Catalonia’s most prestigious cultural distinction. Ingri Fiksdal works on projects on the intersection between the post-anthropocentric and the decolonial from a feminist perspective at the University of Oslo, and her works have been performed at numerous venues around the world.

CÈL·LULA emerges as an embryonic project for the production, creation and transmission of dance within the structure of Mercat de les Flors. The objective of this initiative is to make possible the creation of medium- and large-format works by choreographers who are at the point of maturity and interest in deploying their talent and their aesthetic universe in this stage format. So far, there have been 11 laboratories and three CÈL·LULA productions, with Albert Quesada, with Pere Faura / La Diürna and with Guy Nader and Maria Campos. Last year we asked Núria Guiu to create a production within the framework of CÈL·LULA and this season comes back to Mercat de les Flors.
