Protagonist is a parable about bonds, alliances and affection, but also isolation, control and distance. It is a reflection on humanity, a story about how people congregate and how they adopt and accept roles. During the show, instinct, resistance and compulsion become the witnesses of the battle each individual has to fight and of how communities gradually develop. This large-format piece features 14 dancers and music by Elias, Sweden’s best new artist last year.

The shows by choreographer and dancer Jefta van Dinther are characterized by a very rigorous physical approach. Here, for the second time, he directs a piece for the Cullberg Ballet, a company founded in 1967 which has stood out since its beginnings for its stage personality, creativity and the technical skill of its dancers.

Choreography and direction Jefta van Dinther / Joint creation and performance Adam Schütt, Alexandra Campbell (guest artist), Anand Bolder, Daniel Sjökvist, Eleanor Campbell, Eszter Czédulás, Eva Mohn, Gesine Moog, Jac Carlsson, Katie Jacobson, Linda Adami (guest artist), Samuel Draper, Unn Faleide, Vincent Van der Plas, Tiran Willemse / Music and sound design David Kiers / Voice ELIAS
