With Al baile Juan Carlos Lérida completes his trilogy titled Los cuerpos del flamenco, having already explored flamenco as expressed by the guitarists’ and singers’ bodies in Al toque and Al cante respectively.
“In Al baile, Lérida converts his own body, grafted onto other bodies alien to flamenco, into a subject of research, hurrying to find the dance contained in each of his organs as if prospecting for precious metals.” Fernando LR Parra.
Juan Carlos Lérida is flamenco dancer, choreographer and instructor; he has taught flamenco, contemporary dance and composition at the Institut del Teatre since 2002. Together with artists such as Joaquín Cortés and Belén Maya – and also on his own – he has directed several shows. He was the coordinator of the Flamenco empírico cycle held at the Mercat de les Flors. He is acknowledged as one of today’s leading proponents of avant-garde flamenco.
