20 Dancers for the XX Century presents a living archive. Twenty performers from different generations perform, recall, appropriate, and transmit acclaimed yet forgotten solo works of the last century that were originally conceived or performed by some of the most significant modernist and postmodernist dancers, choreographers, and performance artists. Each performer presents his or her own museum, where the body is the ultimate space for the dance museum. Hence there is neither a stage nor a demarcation of performance space. Rather, the performers circulate freely between the museum galleries and other public spaces.

Dancer and choreographer, Boris Charmatz presented from Aatt enen tionon (1996) to 10000 gestes (2017) a series of highly memorable pieces. While maintaining an extensive touring schedule, he also participates in improvisational events on a regular basis with Saul Williams, Archie Shepp, Médéric Collignon and continues to work as a performer with Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker and Tino Sehgal. From 2002-2004, while an artist-in-residence at the Centre National de la Danse, he developed Bocal, a nomadic and ephemeral school that brought together students from different backgrounds. Since 2009, he has been the director of the Rennes and Brittany National Choreographic Centre (France), and has transformed it in to a Museum of Dance (Musée de la danse) of a new kind. He has been an associated artist of the Volksbühne in Berlin during the 2017/2018 season. He is currently preparing a new creation called infini that will be released in the summer of 2019.
