CÈL·LULA#2: Second production by the Mercat de les Flors within the CÈL·LULA project

Pere Faura’s Rèquiem returns to the Mercat, now as a personal, sincere Rèquiem Nocturn to give a solemn farewell to all the outdated dances that must be left behind. And he does this through the artistic universe of the film director and choreographer Bob Fosse, a leading expert in the spectacle of death, to create a festive, glitter-filled ritual with a multi-disciplinary, multi-generational cast of 9 dancers, 1 actor and 2 live musicians playing an electronic sound track composed especially for the occasion. Iconic scenes – and others that are less well-known – of Fosse will be reinterpreted in a secular funeral mass, joyful yet poignant, to reflect on the life of dance and the beauty of death.

Pere Faura started his career in the Netherlands, where he created a large proportion of his early pieces, mainly at the Frascati Theatre in Amsterdam, where he was associate choreographer. In 2006, he returned to Barcelona, where he continued to create a number of productions, some of which we have been able to see at the Mercat, such as Sin baile no hay paraíso and Sweet Tyranny. Pere Faura’s work includes among its features the appropriation of elements of pop culture, such as striptease, disco music, musicals and pornography, remixed in a multi-disciplinary choreography that combines all the elements of theatre machinery.
