The Dream Project was started by Cuqui Jerez in 2013 and it is due to finish in 2016. It is an experiment on how to work on and produce shows. During this period Cuqui Jerez has produced a collection of fifteen short pieces in different formats and with different subject matter, not necessarily related to each other. Although the Dream Project is a long-term initiative, it has been given very little projection because the process of creation of these pieces is very brief and provides a very immediate way of working, very much connected to the present. It is a research for desire in the present. In the Dream Project, Cuqui Jerez attempts to negotiate with the unknown in order to discover new identities in her work.

The project is divided into several phases, which end up generating an event open to the public. During these encounters Cuqui becomes the curator of her work and decides at the last moment which pieces/works from the collection under construction will be shown at that moment and in what way.

Encounters in the sixth phase will be staged at the Mercat de les Flors on 18, 19 and 20 March, with a different programme every day. Cuqui present two new pieces: El fenómeno de las fuerzas ficticias and Espacios para visitar con lupa (“The phenomena of fictional forces” and “Spaces to visit with a magnifying glass”) and the piece Unos pasodobles (“Some paso dobles”). On this occasion Maria Jerez has been invited to present her piece BLOB. Maria and Cuqui have linked up the projects WHAT IS THIRD and The Dream Project. WHAT IS THIRD is a project led by Maria Jerez where the artistic process is opened up to “others” by bringing together close references, conversations, fortuitous meetings, sought-after workshops, exotic visualisations and parallel processes. Cuqui and Maria have worked together on the production of El fenómeno de las fuerzas ficticias and BLOB.

El fenómeno de las fuerzas ficticias. Performance. MAC Auditorium

He was explaining his obsession with gravity to me and then he opened the book and read something like this: “The secret of flying is the following: you have to do it immediately, before your body realises it is defying the laws.” He closed the book, threw it out of the window and carried on talking. It fell so fast that I didn’t have time to see what book it was. At that point a phrase from Rayuela came to mind: “I’m not sleepy. I keep on seeing things in the air while you talk.”

BLOB by Maria Jerez. Performance. Pina Bausch Auditorium

BLOB signals an enigma: the enigma of how on the basis of the meeting of two, a third thing, a third dimension, something that was not there before, emerges unintentionally. And on emerging, it transforms both 1 and 2; thus producing a displacement, a process of de-identification, a collision with the undefined, proposing a state of constant transformation and a watchful gaze that observes through difference, through the inability to name who is looking.

BLOB is part of Maria Jerez’s project WHAT IS THIRD. This project has shared time and space with Arantxa Martínez, Alejandra Pombo, Marten Spangberg, Edurne Rubio, Peio Aguirre, Vedrana Klepica, Anto Rodriguez, Mala Kline and Cuqui Jerez.
