A show stuffed with human, animal and vegetable matter. Moments full of primal instincts and intuitions: smells, tastes, feelings, worries, laughs and eating. The heart of this drama is life and the transformation of food into life, with its vegetable roots that come to life thanks to the ingenuity of the characters, capable of twisting our conceptions of fundamentals and food. It’s a show written through the poetry of human-animals, with two central characters who work circus-style but who are vegetable cannibals. Nothing is simple, nor does it seem so. Everything is pure fiction, and all is real within the fiction. A collective subconscious emerges, illustrated by the peculiar human syndrome of sand castle building – build only to destroy, live to die, do to undo, know to ignore.  Structures we build often on fragile and sinking foundations. It’s a show in which we play, we make an echo by putting all of life on show; making something exist only to have it disappear, crying, laughing, playing, dancing, defying. It is an appeal to freedom, to the imagination.

In 1987, Jordi Aspa and Bet Miralta created Escarlata Circus, and have since put on a large number of shows that have toured Europe, Israel and Russia. They were artistic directors of Trapezi, the Circus Festival in Reus, from its launch in 1997 until 2011 and won the Catalan National Circus Prize in 2007. They’ve also directed shows by other companies and events.
